Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

cytomegalovirus_diagram.jpg
The double-stranded DNA is contained within a polyhedral viral capsid. The viral capsid is surrounded by the tegument, which mainly consists of proteins that aid in reproduction and concealment from the host’s immune system. The membranous envelope that surrounds the tegument is made by the Golgi bodies in the host cell. The viral glycoproteins assist in entrance of the virus, development of new viruses, and spreading of the virus from one cell to the next.
